Business & investment signals

What to watch when a company expands, relocates or closes.

Announcements, permits, construction starts, hiring and actual payroll gains are different stages of business activity. We record the source, announcement date, location, expected jobs (if stated), investment (if stated), and subsequent evidence. An announced project is not counted as completed investment or realized employment until a source confirms it.

What to keep in view

  • Separate announced jobs from jobs actually filled
  • Identify the company, location and announcement date
  • Use state incentive disclosures and employer updates for verification
How to read this page

We distinguish a source’s reported observation from our interpretation. Where an update is preliminary, approximate or not comparable across geographies, we say so. This page is an explanatory guide, not an official government notice or professional advice.
